HOW are you doing today? I for one am tired AF lately. between school, relationships and maintaining this platform, I rarely get a chance to "smell the roses". luckily these are all the things I enjoy so life isn't actually that bad come to think of it.

TODAY I didn't feel like making an effort... I wanted something easy and fast. I am known for being quite an androgynous dresser, so for my 3rd Rendition I slid back into my comfort zone. cue the likes of mother retro herself, Janelle Monae and the YSL 'le smoking tuxedo' trend from way back in the 60s. jujed up with hints of leather, smokey eyes and a dab of eyeliner to make my lips look more menacing I almost had it. the only problem was I do not know how to NOT smile, because lets face it you can't successfully cross dress without a b!@#&y personality to match! instead it became a mix of broken black Barbie and school girl charm meets " don't fux with me today."

I STILL tried to keep the vintage vibe going by adding the puffy sleeved blouse with a peter pan collar and the wide brim hat, (something that keeps reminding me of old Woody Allen movies)... how would you interpret this look? share it with me maybe?  till next time

I just realised this is the first post I've ever sweared in. ANYHOW we could all send manners to hell once in a while. keep in touch honey!

RENDITION #2 - Youthfull Reminisce

THIS rendition was uber fun to pull of. wore it to school and for a good 2hours outside the safety of home, i could feel the stares as i walked on by. i was so self-conscious till i got my first compliment, then it was smooth sailing from there.

I DIYed this old T that I got when I was in 3rd grade for a school play we did (yea we were awesome, I know). I cut the sleeves and the collar out then pulled some threads at the hem, sassed it up with some menacing lipstick and VOILA! perfection. all that aside my favorite part had to be the hair!! inspired by so many 90s movies about living in Detroit and other ghettos, TLC and suprisingly Rihanna as well..hmm.. I give you rendition #2.

THIS look was totally out of my forte. before this outfit, I had never walked out of the house showing the slightest bit of stomach. I'll never really be 100% okay with how I look, but I've slowly stopped caring how society has labelled me. who knew blogging would allow me to have a positive body image. I truly hope someone out there is inspired to just let themselves be.

LOOKING forward to bringing you some more vintage finds. keep checking back. tweet me your interpretations. I've been thinking of featuring your pics! remember its #7renditions! love more, be more, take risks and keep on SMEARING!

LATELY I've been inspired to try something new everyday. I get inspiration from all over the Internet, blogs and underground magazines alike. sometime last week I found an image of a woman by the name of Oroma Elewa. I was AMAZED at the beauty of her photographs and went on a surfing spree of over three hours, reading anything that shed some light on her. finally I came upon her blog, Oroma's Therapy, and to put it simply, I devoured it. I learnt that she is a photographer, a fashion forward DJ a former model and editor. her unique hair and vintage Afro-chic style kept me intrigued. in her words "it’s a juxtaposition between cosmopolitanism and tradition."

SO as the week went on and I continued to indulge myself in the exquisite presence that is she, I dove into my closet and was truly struck by the gold that I've been sitting on. Over the past few months I've slowly discovered that I'm happiest when I'm wearing something old, something thrifted or something borrowed. I love the feeling of worn leather between my hands. I love the smell of old perfume on clothes. it gives them character. implies that there is a story beyond the threads.

THAT one image has inspired me to be carefree with what i wear. I'm more willing to try things out. I've always loved vintage pieces, but living in a trend driven environment made me scared of ridicule and less willing to be public with my love for vivid interpretation. this is how i channeled my inner Oroma:

I've also been inspired by this one image to do a new blog project. I don't know what to call it yet, but basically its 7 renditions of outfits that I find anywhere really. hey there's a idea, 7 renditions!  there is no time limit as to when this project should be complete since varsity has me in jeans and T-shirts most of the time. I am however, limited to vintage inspirations. I'll do sneak previews on my twitter and stuff like that. just a fun way to re engage myself with  SMEARED LIPSTICK. so follow there as well for updates.

AS usual tweet me, email me, share your own interpretations using #7RENDITIONS , comment or call (lol no). life isn't as fun without you guys. lets start something BIG! till next time,
